С 22 по 27 мая 2018 г. на борту теплохода «А. С. Попов» проводилась международная научно-практическая конференция «Современная наука: актуальные проблемы и перспективы развития».
Наука, путешествие, международное сотрудничество и изучение достопримечательностей родного края – все эти направления смогли гармонично «сосуществовать» на теплоходе, который следовал по маршруту: Н. Новгород – Свияжск – Казань – Чистополь – Елабуга – Мариинский Посад – Чебоксары – Макарьево – Н. Новгород.
На каждой пристани пассажиры имели возможность заняться изучением краеведения (конкретного населенного пункта) и исследованием местных достопримечательностей. Кстати, основной целью этой категории путешественников и является научно-исследовательская деятельность. А теплоход участники и организаторы международной научно-практической конференции не официально величают «научным».
В работе конференции приняли участие представители профессорско-преподавательского состава, научные сотрудники, студенты и молодые ученые из 21 образовательного и научного учреждения. Общее количество участников конференции составило 226 человек.

- «Информационные и инфокоммуникационные технологии»,
- «Индустрия моды и красоты»,
- «Актуальные вопросы качества и безопасности товаров и услуг в сфере торговли»,
- «Общественного питания и сервиса, молодые ученые».
В работе секций заслушано более 100 докладов по актуальным проблемам развития науки и технологий.
Доклады наших ребят вызвали большие дискуссии и по завершению были оценены положительными отзывами со стороны жюри.

Во время конференции состоялись публичные лекции: «Россиеведение как наука» (д.ф.н., профессор И. Б.Чубайс), «Атомный подводный флот России», посвященная 73-летней годовщине Великой Победы (д.э.н., профессор Н. В. Мордовченков, к.п.н., доцент В. М. Поляков). На борту теплохода была организована работа круглого стола на тему «Подготовка кадров для решения новых задач в эпоху цифровой экономики», состоялись мастер-классы по графике, живописи и золотой вышивке, театр мод ИПТД провел театрализованное дефиле.
